Ooredoo Kuwait sponsors Professor Yunus seminar – Bid to develop capabilities of young Kuwaitis

KUWAIT CITY, March 10: Ooredoo Kuwait, a member of the international Ooredoo Group, sponsored Professor Muhammad Yunus’s seminar, entitled ‘Redesigning Economics to Redesign the World’. 2006 Nobel Laureate Professor Muhammad Yunus is a former economics professor at the University of Chittagong, one of Bangladesh’s main universities and founder of Bangladesh-based microcredit institution Grameen Bank. The seminar was held under the patronage of His Highness the Amir at The Chamber of Commerce and Industry on Tuesday, and was attended by a number of Ooredoo Kuwait’s senior managers.

Professor Yunus was invited by Imtedad, an exhibition-organizing company, to speak about his own experience in the charity field and present a case study on the foundation of Grameen bank. Grameen aims at providing the required support to needy people so they can start their own small businesses as a source of income.

During the seminar, Professor Yunus showcased most of his accomplishments in this field and the causes which concerned him until he became an internationally recognized figure. While speaking at the seminar he emphasized on the fact that the joy he gained during the past years working in the charity field is more satisfying than any financial gain.

Commenting on the sponsorship, Ooredoo Kuwait’s Corporate Communications Director said: “We are honored to collaborate with the Chamber of Commerce and Industry and pleasure to sponsor Professor Muhammad Yunus’s seminar. We highly believe in the positive impact such seminars would have on refining youths minds and broaden their horizon to reinforce the importance of charity work and its high impact it has on their societies”

On another note, Daoud Suleiman Marafia, General Manager of Imtedad company expressed his gratitude and appreciation to His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, for his patronage to Professor Muhammad Yunus’s seminar, as well the other sponsors including Ooredoo Kuwait, stressing on the key role the company is playing in supporting youth of Kuwait and adopting numerous important initiatives as a part of its social responsibility program.
