KUWAIT CITY, Feb 23: The General Administration of Residence Affairs at the Ministry of Interior has stopped extending residence for nongraduate expatriates who are 60 years and above, as was the case before the issuance of the recent amendments that allows this category of expatriates to renew their work and residence permits after paying an annual fee of 250 dinars and health insurance issued by a private company which costs 503.500 dinars, reports Al-Qabas daily quoting Interior Ministry sources.

The daily quoting informed sources said the Residence Affairs Departments during the past year, had issued hundreds of extensions to expatriates 60 year olds and above after their residencies expired as the authorities continued holding meetings how to solve the issue of this category of expatriates.

The extensions ranged between 30 and 90 days and more, to spare them from incurring fines for residence violations that cost two dinars for each day of violation. The sources added this category of people have now two choices either to renew the work permits as per the new requirements, or join the family – sponsored by the son if the latter meets the conditions.

In this context, statistics issued by the labor market system shows approximately 9,000 nongraduate expatriates who are 60 years and above have left the labor market between March and September 2021.
