Nine Asians perish in Farwaniya blaze

KUWAIT CITY, June 30: Nine Pakistanis and Indians died, and 12 others sustained injuries in a fire that engulfed a house in Farwaniya area on June 30.

The injured victims have been referred to Farwaniya and Sabah hospitals and five among them were admitted in the Intensive Care Unit in serious conditions.

Two firefighters who suffered from smoke inhalation were referred to Mubarak Al-Kabeer Hospital for treatment.

Assistant Undersecretary for Support Medical Services at Ministry of Health Dr Jamal Al-Harbi revealed that six charred corpses were found at the site and three victims died on the way to the hospital. According to security sources, when the Control Room of Kuwait Fire Service Directorate (KFSD) received information at about 8:57am about the fire incident, firefighters rushed to the location.

When they tried to rescue the trapped victims, they discovered that the house was partitioned into several rooms, which was the main reason behind the high number of casualties. After rescuing the victims, firefighters quickly extinguished the fire before it spread further. High-ranking officials including Assistant Undersecretary for Public Security Affairs Major General Ibrahim Al-Tarrah and Farwaniya Security Director Brigadier Saleh Al-Enzi were present at the location.

The Fire Investigation Unit of KFSD has launched investigations to determine the cause of the fire and other factors, after which it will prepare a technical report in this regard. In a press release, KFSD urged owners and tenants of real-estates to abide by the fire prevention conditions such as emergency exits and to comply with the constructional regulations based on the license granted by the concerned authorities.
