Nigeria, Mali outclass rivals in African soccer tournament

Last week Mahboula’s football ground witnessed the ongoing 1st African Football Tournament where tough matches were played.

On Thursday in the first match, Sierra Leone managed to defeat Kenya through penalty shootout after the match ended in a draw of two goals each.  The second match was between Mali and Ivory Coast in which Mali beat Ivory Coast by two goals to nil.  On Friday, Nigeria beat Egypt by two goals to nil, while Mali defeated Ethiopia by 5 goals to 4.

This weekend will witness five matches. On Thursday (today), Kenya will face Ethiopia at 6:30 pm, followed by tournament favorites Nigeria playing Benin. On Friday, Sierra Leone will play Togo, Mali will face Malawi. On Saturday, women’s team from Ethiopia will face Sierra Leone.

In his statement, the CEO of the Frenzy Organization, Ahmad Dauda Bangura expressed his appreciation towards the participating teams and the level of organization.

Bangura indicated that, the tournament is considered a great achievement in terms of bringing together the African communities in Kuwait to celebrate one of their favorite sports and their culture as well.

The tournament is a build-up to the African Talent Kuwait festival scheduled for Aug 12, featuring the culture and ‘Drums of Africa’.
