New traffic cams to record plate number, car color

KUWAIT CITY, Nov 8: The Ministry of Interior intends to install new cameras for the first time in the country to identify car plates, as part of Kuwait’s efforts to confront the emerging corona virus and movement of traffic on roads, reports Al-Anba daily quoting senior ministry sources.

The sources said these cameras can read hundreds of plates within a few minutes and then store the plate number and the color of the car, in addition to the geographical location, date and time in the database that can be accessed later if and when there is any problem.

The sources indicated those cameras can be installed at the traffic lights or on road signs. On one hand the cameras will help monitor violations on the one hand, and to track the movement of cars simultaneously on the other hand.

The sources stated the Ministry of Interior has got approval to sign the contract to bring those cameras. The contract is worth 788,700 dinars. Moreover, the company implementing the contract will provide fourth generation (4G) services on the Ministry of Interior network when needed
