New Pakistani medics begin work in hospitals

KUWAIT CITY, April 1: The Pakistani medical teams, which arrived in Kuwait last week, began their work in various Ministry of Health hospitals, to assist national medical teams to confront, contain and combat the Covid-19 pandemic, as the number of infections have been increasing during the past few months, reports Al-Jarida daily. The third batch of Pakistani medical team comprising of 223 doctors, technicians and nurses, arrived in the country recently, were placed in home quarantine for 7 days and after the quarantine period, they were distributed to work in various hospitals, including Adan, Farwaniya, Al-Jahra and the Jaber Hospital.

Informed health sources told the daily the number of Pakistani medical staff that arrived in Kuwait in three batches is 627 — doctors, technicians and nurses – but the nurses make the bulk of the medical teams which is about 75 percent, all of whom are specialized in intensive care, abdominal, thoracic and other issues.

The source pointed out that the first batch included 208 doctors, technicians and nurses, the second included 196, noting that the Ministry of Health is planning to bring in additional new batches of Pakistani medical staff, up to 1,000, to help contain the Corona pandemic, according to a health agreement signed between Kuwait and Pakistan. The sources stated the fourth batch will arrive soon. The first arrived in October 2020, the second in late December 2020, and the third last March.

The sources indicated officials in the Ministry of Health are continuing to communicate with their counterparts in the Ministry of Health in Pakistan to bring Pakistani doctors and medical teams to Kuwait. It is worth noting that bringing in medical teams from Pakistan comes within the framework of the joint medical and technical cooperation agreement, and the exchange of experiences between the two countries, which was signed by the ministry at the beginning of July 2020, with the aim of strengthening the bonds of cooperation between the two sides, and providing the opportunity to benefit from the Pakistani expertise of the medical, nursing and technical personnel.
