NCCAL’s arts sector preps for 3 major projects, Expo Dubai

KUWAIT CITY, Aug 21: The Assistant Secretary-General for the Arts Sector at the National Council for Culture, Arts and Letters (NCCAL), Dr. Bader Al-Duwaish, said that the arts sector is preparing for three major projects under the directives of the Minister of Information and Culture and Minister of State for Youth Affairs Abdul Rahman Al-Mutairi, namely ‘House of Music’, The Permanent Museum of Fine Art and Kuwait Theater Festival. Al-Duwaish added in a press statement on Saturday that the council is also organizing a number of other projects, including participation in the activities of the Expo 2021, which will be hosted by Dubai starting next October.

He explained that Minister Al-Mutairi laid down the basic axial lines for launching these major projects in cooperation with the leaders of the National Council for Culture, Arts and Letters headed by its Secretary General Kamel Al-Abdul-Jalil, as next October will witness the opening of the House of Music and the Permanent Museum of Fine Art, in addition to basic aspects of Kuwait’s participation in the Expo Dubai 2021 through a group of theatrical, musical and plastic performances. He also referred to the preparations for the twenty-first session of the Kuwait Theater Festival, which will be held this year in the month of December, as part of the health and precautionary requirements taken by the Ministry of Health.

He affirmed the council’s interest in working on a developmental movement to include schools in the plastic arts under the umbrella of the Permanent Museum of Fine Art and the revival of folklore through the House of Music, in addition to investing in specialized academic institutions, including the Higher Institute of Musical Arts, and c o o p e r a t i n g with specialized sectors in the Ministry of Education to keep pace with the artists’ ambitions through support, attribution, and investment in creative music that distinguishes the State of Kuwait. He indicated that the location of the House of Music will be in the (first courtyard) of the Museum of Modern Art, and it will be divided into two sections, while the Permanent Museum of Fine Art will be in the second roofed courtyard, which will serve as an incubator for the most important creative productions in various sectors of fine art.

With regard to the Kuwait Theater Festival, Al-Duwaish said that the theater administration under the umbrella of the arts sector in the council has begun to invite private and qualitative theater groups to participate in the activities of the 21st session of the Kuwait Theater Festival, which will start in early December. He indicated that the Supreme Committee for Theater, headed by the Secretary-General of the National Council for Culture, Arts and Letters, Kamel Al-Abdul-Jalil, began to develop a regulation for the development of theatrical movement through civil and private groups, and to set regulations and legislation that would give more flexibility and flow to theatrical production process, in addition to preparing for reactivating the role of the Union of Civil Theaters. He stated that the arts sector in the council will present a set of outstanding artistic contributions within the activities of the Expo 2021, which will start next October until March 2022, as the Kuwait pavilion will present a number of distinguished theatrical performances, musical performances and plastic exhibitions that embody the development reached by these arts in Kuwait. He valued the directives and support of Minister Al-Mutairi and the great role played by Al-Abdul-Jalil and the assistant secretaries of the National Council for Culture, in addition to the efforts made by the media, which constitute an essential source of support, care and follow-up.(KUNA)
