Municipality targets abandoned cars

KUWAIT CITY, July 18: The Department of Public Relations at Kuwait Municipality announced that Public Hygiene and Road Usage Department at the Capital Municipality Branch recently embarked on a two-week campaign during which officials issued 97 citations, removed 218 vehicles and put stickers on 350 abandoned vehicles, reports Al- Seyassah daily.

Director of Public Hygiene and Road Usage at the Capital Municipality Branch Jamal Al-Fadhli stated the department instituted the action plan for the campaign to discourage the idea of using roadsides and open spaces without authorization, indicating the act of using spaces without proper authorization causes accidents.

Officials issued 50 citations for violation of public hygiene regulation, according to the ministerial Decision No. 190/2006 that stipulates dumping refuse at specified locations only, he said. Al-Fadhli noted the officials lifted 1300 cubic meters of garbage and 180 tons of used tyres; besides sweeping and washing of major and internal roads and changing 51 garbage bins. He reiterated 113 of the seized vehicles kept at the Seized Vehicles Garage were removed from Mohammad Bin Al-Qasim Street.
