MP warns against increasing ‘prices’

KUWAIT CITY, April 26 : The parliamentary Education, Culture and Guidance Affairs Committee on Tuesday met with Kuwait University President Professor Yousef Al-Roumi and a number of senior university officials. Committee Chairman MP Hamad Al- Matar disclosed that they discussed the academic classification of the university and amendment of Law No. 76/2014. He said the committee previously asked interim President of the university Dr Bader Al- Bedaiwi to submit the report of the panel formed by the university to tackle the academic classification issue and amendment of the aforementioned law. He added the committee will continue its discussion after the Eid Al-Fitr holiday. Other matters discussed in Tuesday’s meeting included vacancies, scholarships, ways to deal with the unions of students and academic staff, and summer courses.

Since there is no time to issue the executive regulations; the summer courses this year will be conducted according to the current regulations, as the implementation of the new regulations has been postponed until next academic year for further study, Al-Matar revealed. Al-Matar went on to say that he suggested the formation of a committee to investigate the violations stated in the report of the State Audit Bureau (SAB), confirming that the university president promised to do so.

In another development, MP Osama Al-Menawer forwarded queries to Minister of Justice and Minister of State for Nazaha (Integrity) Enhancement Jamal Al-Jalawi about the steps taken by the Civil Service Commission (CSC) regarding the decisions of resigned ministers on the appointment, secondment and reshuffl ing of employees.

Meanwhile, MP Khalil Al-Saleh warned the Ministry of Commerce and Industry against cancelling the decision to specify the prices of commodities during Ramadan. MP Abdulkareem Al-Kandari urged the Ministry of Commerce and Industry to continue the implementation of such a decision to regulate the prices of commodities during the holy month.
