On the other hand, MP Khalid Ayed Al- Enezi asked Minister of Oil and Higher Education Dr Muhammad Al-Fares why the students who obtained a scholarship to study in Bahrain are not covered by the health insurance which is supposed to be for all students. MP Abdullah Al-Mudhaf forwarded queries to the same minister about the reasons behind the renewal of contract number 208 signed on July 6, 1999 and terminated on May 31, 2019 and contract number 211 signed on July 1, 1999 and terminated on May 31, 2019.

He said these contracts were renewed by the Board of Directors of the Public Authority for Industry (PAI) as per the authorization granted to the board, so he demanded for a copy of the authorization. He inquired about the criteria adopted by the board in renewing these contracts. He asked if some plots were allocated for a certain investor who later sub-leased these plots. If yes, he requested for details including the rent amount and validity of the rent contract.

Moreover, Chairman of the parliamentary Public Funds Protection Committee MP Abdullah Al-Turaiji disclosed that they met with Managing Director of Kuwait Investment Authority (KIA) Ghanim Al-Othaiman, member of the Board of Directors Fahd Al-Rashed and Deputy Chairman of State Audit Bureau (SAB) Adel Al- Sara’awi on Thursday. He said they discussed the major violations committed by Touristic Enterprises Company (TEC), indicating the Board of Directors failed to address these violations due to poor management.

He asserted the resignation of the company’s Chief Executive Officer Abdulwahab Al-Marzouq recently came earlier than the completion of the committee’s report – an indication that the latter is dodging responsibility for the major losses amounting to millions of Kuwaiti dinars. He mentioned some of the recorded violations as follows: refusal of the company to conduct investigation on the contract with the French Circus which caused losses amounting to KD854,000; signing of contracts for consultation services with private companies in 2015 valued at KD 11 million; delayed activation of the hazard management policy which caused major losses during Covid-19 crisis — reduction of revenues by KD6 million; and failure to make almost half billion Kuwaiti dinars for violating law number 116/ 2014 on partnership enterprises. He added the director for public reserve at KIA is the brother-in-law of the Board Chairman of TEC, so he asked the director to leave the meeting to avoid any conflict of interests. Furthermore, National Assembly Speaker Marzouq Al-Ghanim on Thursday met French MP Amèlia Lakrafiwho is currently on official visit to Kuwait. French Ambassador to Kuwait Claire Le Flecher attended the meeting as well. Al-Ghanim also sent a cable to Speaker of the House of Representatives of Kazakhstan Nurlan Nigmatulin and head of the Senate Aualen Sagathanovich Ashembayev on the occasion of their National Day By Saeed Mahmoud Saleh Arab Times Staff
