MP queries expat ‘hires’

KUWAIT CITY, Sept 26: MP Mubarak Al-Hajraf has forwarded questions to Minister of Social Affairs and Labor Hind Al-Sabeeh on the appointment of expatriates in her ministry. Al-Hajraf stressed that unemployment is a serious issue for the sons and daughters of the country; hence, the need to prioritize it in order to provide citizens with dignified life as well as psychological and family stability.
He asked about the total number of expatriates working in the ministry and institutions under its supervision; departments and institutions affiliated to the ministry that employ expatriates who hold a university degree with good rating or less; and departments, sectors and institutions affiliated to the ministry that employ diploma-holding expatriates with good rating or less.
Meanwhile, MP Abdullah Fahad Al-Anazi has submitted a proposal to Health Minister Dr Jamal Al-Harbi on the implementation of an international health insurance system for citizens. He affirmed the minister showed interest in the proposal and promised to study it. The lawmaker praised the remarkable developments in the Ministry of Health under the tenure of Al-Harbi who took many reform measures and prevented repetition of past mistakes.
He pointed out the minister stopped the so-called ‘medical tourism’ and dealt with the issue properly to ensure that the overseas treatment privilege is granted only to the rightful beneficiaries despite criticisms by those who benefited from the previous mechanism. He said the minister has completed a number of steps for the Ministry of Public Works to hand over Jaber Hospital to its health counterpart.
He added the minister is serious in his bid to implement reforms and develop work procedures as manifested in his decision to allot a day to listen to the complaints of citizens. He thanked the minister for taking into consideration his proposal to include Kuwaiti housewives in the health insurance project (Afia). He said this response is not surprising for a minister keen on working efficiently.
On another issue, MP Ali Al-Daqbasi said he obtained the signatures of 35 lawmakers on his request to discuss the Financial Affairs Committee’s report about the proposed amendment of the Social Insurance Law to reduce the retirement age for employees in the public and private sectors in the first session of the second legislative round. He urged the government to cooperate in pushing for the ratification of the bill which aims to generate thousands of job opportunities for Kuwaitis and solve many problems of the State like unemployment and accumulation of unnecessary workers in government agencies. He also expressed gratitude to his colleagues who signed the request, hoping this will pave way for approval of the proposal.
