MoI civilian employees union chief refutes rumor on protest; PAM in bid to limit labor dispute

KUWAIT CITY, Oct 9: Chairman of the Civilian Employees Union at Ministry of Interior Bader Maraji Al-Enezi denied the rumor that the technical examination staff members were planning to hold a protest, insisting that such a rumor is false and unfounded. He explained that the union held a meeting with some technical examination staff members on Wednesday and the latter denied even contemplating such an action. The staff members pledged their commitment to their national assignment, based on which they will never do anything to work against the national interest. Al-Enezi affirmed that every worker is entitled to peaceful protest, based on the International Labor Union agreements.

However, certain guidelines and conditions have to be followed when holding such protects; for example, workers can hold protests when employers fail to pay their wages. He stressed that Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Sheikh Mohammad Al-Khalid Al-Sabah and the Undersecretary Lieutenant General Sulaiman Al-Fahad have always been firmly supporting the workers, adding that the Assistant Undersecretary for Financial and Administration Affairs Sheikh Ahmad Al-Abdullah Al-Sabah always takes the requests of workers seriously. Al-Enezi assured that a memo stating the workers’ demands will be prepared and hopefully their demands will be met as soon as possible.

Meanwhile, director of Legal Affairs at the Public Authority for Manpower (PAM) Dr Mubarak Al-Azmi disclosed that the sector aims behind the unified labor contract to arrange relations between the employer and employee to limit labor dispute, reports Al- Anba daily. In an interview with the daily, Al-Azmi said the Department of Legal Affairs at PAM is new. He added the department is currently run by a manager and one employee.

However, it follows up 406 civil, labor and administrative cases with the Judiciary. He explained that disputes mainly involve foreign contracts, weak labor culture and vague employer vision, stressing the unified contract will mend the defect. He reiterated e-legal library will be connected with the Ministry of Justice and other PAM departments.
