KUWAIT CITY, March 23: The Ministry of Health is racing against time to achieve community immunity for corona, while the ninth shipment of Pfizer vaccine arrived in the country recently, reports Al-Qabas daily quoting sources from the health sector. Sources said the ministry is working hard to reserve additional quantities of vaccines approved by international health organizations.

Sources confirmed the Central Agency for Public Tenders (CAPT) approved the ministry’s request to procure two million doses of Pfizer vaccine in the coming period at a cost of $48 million. Sources disclosed this was referred to the State Audit Bureau (SAB) for final approval, indicating the ministry aims to vaccinate about 70 percent of the population in the next few months. Sources added the ministry has invited 24,000 people who registered on the electronic platform for vaccination to the Kuwait Vaccination Center recently. Sources pointed out this is the second time the ministry took this step and the first time was last Thursday.

Sources said those invited to the center include the elderly citizens and expatriates — 65 years old and above and other segments. Sources stressed the need for everyone qualified for vaccination to register on the platform and disregard voices opposing vaccination.
