KUWAIT CITY, April 24: As part of a serious attempt to rationalize spending and to stop financial waste, the Ministry of Education tends to carry out maintenance of buildings owned by the ministry to house the expatriate teachers instead of leasing buildings which cost the State Treasure 3,240,000 dinars annually, reports Annahar daily.

Assistant Undersecretary for Educational Facilities and Planning Dr Khalid Rashid explained the maintenance work on buildings owned by the ministry will begin in June after the budget is allocated based on priority.

Assistant Undersecretary for Financial Affairs Yousef Al Najjar explained the ministry owns nine buildings but all of them need radical reforms and renovations to become inhabitable.

He said four of these buildings are located in the Capital, three in Al-Ahmadi and two in Jahra. He continued saying, at the same time the ministry has hired 29 buildings to accommodate female expatriate teachers in various areas — five buildings in Farwaniya at cost of KD 500,000 a year, 8 in Jahra for KD 900,000, 7 in the Capital for KD 700,000 and two each in Hawalli and Mubarak Al-Kabir for KD 270,000 each, and 5 in Ahmadi for KD 600,000 annually
