MoE mulls plans to promote all students of lower classes

Mechanism sought for 12th grade

KUWAIT CITY, April 19: The Ministry of Education is currently studying to bring to an end the 2019- 2020 academic year for all grades, except for the “Twelfth”, should the coronavirus continue to haunt the world until next August.

Senior education sources said the Assistant Undersecretary for Public Education Osama Al-Sultan discussed with the directors of the educational districts during the April 5 meeting, the alternatives if should the crisis drag on.

Those attended the meeting unanimously agreed to end the year for all levels of education, and to search for a mechanism to organize exams for the twelfth grade and allowing students to join the universities. The sources added the minutes of the meeting have been sent to the Council of Ministers for a final say on the outcome of the meeting.

It is noteworthy that Egypt took such a step on March 19, and Saudi Arabia added its voice on Thursday, April 16 to bring down the curtain on the academic year and cancel the exams for the second semester and promote all students due to the outbreak of the coronavirus with the completion of the curriculum remotely and continuing e-learning processes.

In the meantime, concerning the private schools sources indicated the end of the academic year for foreign and bilingual schools was not discussed at the present time.
