MMC Group lift 2nd Jimmy George Memorial volleyball tourney title

KUWAIT CITY, Sept 30: The four day journey of Volleyball Extravaganza, the UAE Xchange – 2nd Jimmy George Memorial Volleyball Tournament flagged off successfully in the blessed court of Indian Central School Floodlight Stadium by the UAE Exchange Xpress Money Cluster Manager Kodhanda Anjaneyalu on Sept 22. Indian Volleyball Association (IVAK) organised this volleyball tournament with the sole aim of popularising and uplifting Volleyball to the future generation with the support of UAE Xchange.

The matches were conducted for the Inter School and the Open Category men with the wide range of National players exhibiting true sportsmanship and volley fervour. Each day started off with a variety of vibrant matches witnessed by a jampacked audience and flambuoyant cheer leaders. Volleyball tournament conducted in the sweet memory of the Volleyball legend Jimmy George whose steadfastedness on the court his principle to “face the opponent with utmost determination and never to give up” really ignited the spirit of volleyball at IVAK.

The matches added more spice and flavour to the tournament. United Indian School, Carmel School, Indian Community School, Don Bosco School and DPS participated in the inter school category in both Under 16 and Under 19 age group. In the Under 16 Category United Indian School defeated Carmel in the thrilling match and won the title, when Don Bosco A team won the third position, the fourth place was shared by DPS and Don Bosco B. Abin Seby Joseph of UIS was declared the Shifa Al Jazeera -U 16 player of the tournament.

In the Under 19 Boys category Carmel defeated the last year champions UIS boys in a neck to neck match and lifted the cup. Indian community school was the 2nd runner up and Don Bosco was in the fourth position. Jovil Joseph of CSK was declared the Shifa Al Jazeera -U 19 player of the tournament. In the open category MMC Group Royal Abbassiya Volley Club won the Metro Medical Care Ever Rolling Trophy by defeating FAS Kuwait in a four set encounter with thundering spikes, perfect digs, accurate settings, rocket serves, clever drops … a complete show of perfect volleyball. The Alghanium Securities accomplished with a group of spirited and brave volleyball players were the crowd puller team who won the third position.

Abdul Rahman (Kuwait International Player) of MMC Group Royal Abbassiya Volley Club was declared the Udayakumar Memorial Award for – Best Player, award instituted by Udayakumar Foundation. Achut Shresta of Alghanium securities was declared the Shifa Al Jazeera player of the crowd. His Excellency Yagya Bahadur Hamal, Ambassador of Nepal to Kuwait was the Chief Guest and Dr Shantha Maria James was the guest of Honour. In the colourful closing ceremony.

His Excellency honoured Renjith Pillai, BDM of UAE exchange who is the Royal Sponsor of the event. Hamza Payyannoor, Vice-Chairman & CEO of MMC Group Distributed the Metro Medical Care Ever Rolling Trophy to the winners. All the trophies in the tournament were sponsored by MMC Group. Dr Sridhar, CEO of Shifa Group Kuwait, Zubair. M and Ashif & Lucia Williams distributed the Shifa Al Jazeera Cash Prize for the three winners in Men Category.

Faisal Hamza (MMC Group), Ayoob Kechery (Grand Hyper), Dr Biji Basheer (MMC Group), Iqbal (MMC Group), GM Tradex, CEO of Kaula, Shahida Aboobecker (Shifa Group), Koshy Abraham (Chairan IBA), Babuji Batheri, Raghunathan Nair, Manoj Kumar B Nair, Thomas K Thomas (Chairman IVAK), A Hakim (Vice- Chairman IVAK), Sibi Kurian (Gen secretary IVAK), Alexander Varghese (Treasurer IVAK), Jobin Thomas (Jn Secretary IVAK) and Shibu Thomas (Jn Trasurer IVAK) distributed the prizes to the winners in different categories.

The tournament was officiated by D.K. Dileep (Technical Commissioner), Joseph Chacko, Prajeesh Balan, Kalaivani Santhosh, Sojan Sebastian, Master Sam Shaji and Master Darshan Dileep. The programme was anchored by Usha Dileep.
