Ministers, top officials urged to submit financial disclosures – Cabinet hails PM’s submission of ‘report’ to anti-graft body

KUWAIT CITY, Oct 12, (KUNA): The Cabinet has called on ministers and senior officials of state bodies to submit their financial disclosure reports to the Anti-Corruption Authority as soon as possible. The call was made by the Cabinet during its customary weekly meeting held at Bayan Palace on Monday under chairmanship of His Highness the Prime Minister Sheikh Jaber Al-Mubarak Al-Hamad Al-Sabah.

The Cabinet spoke highly of all steps and measure taken by the authority to fight corruption in the country, Minister of State for Cabinet Affairs Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah Al-Mubarak Al-Sabah said in a press statement following the meeting. The Cabinet hailed His Highness the Prime Minister’s submission of the financial disclosure report to the authority yesterday as a model and clear-cut message for abidance by law.

The ministers then approved a draft decree authorizing the establishment of the Technical University of Munich in Kuwait, along with a memo of understanding on housing care and infrastructure between Kuwait and Republic of Korea, he said. The Cabinet congratulated Tunisian President Beji Caid Essebsi on the Tunisian National Dialogue Quartet’s win of the Nobel peace prize for this year. Moreover, it vehemently condemned recent twin explosions in the Turkish capital of Ankara as “terrorist acts” that targeted innocent people and aim to disrupt security and stability in this friendly country.

The Cabinet reiterated Kuwait’s emphatic condemnation of all forms and manifestations of terrorism. At the onset of the meeting, the Cabinet congratulated His Highness the Amir, His Highness the Crown Prince and the Kuwaiti people on Hijira new year, which falls on Wednesday. The Cabinet welcomed the return of His Highness the Amir and His Highness the Prime Minister from New York where they had attended recent UN summits.

The Chairman of the Kuwait Anti-Corruption Authority counselor Abdurrahman Al-Nimesh stated that with the Prime Minister submitting his statement of financial liabilities, he has set an outstanding example on a national and regional level. Speaking to the press after his meeting with his highness the Prime Minister Sheikh Jaber Al-Mubarak Al-Hamad Al-Sabah at Bayan Palace Sunday morning, counselor Al-Nimesh asserted that this initiative sends out a clear message to all state officials who are subjected to the provisions of the financial disclosure law, urging them to submit their statements on the scheduled dates, legally set by the law regarding the establishment of the authority. Al-Nimesh then extended his gratitude to the prime minister for instructing concerned governmental institutions to tend to the needs of the authority in order to fulfill the goal it was established for.
