‘Some involved in unscrupulous acts’

KUWAIT CITY, April 12: Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Interior and Minister of State for Cabinet Affairs Anas Al- Saleh said he is proud of the role played by Kuwaiti securitymen, stressing that he rejects attempts to distort the image of the ministry by a few people involved in unscrupulous acts, reports Al-Anba daily.

He issued a ministerial decision to suspend an officer while investigations are ongoing on suspicions that a company the officer owns, in partnership with some individuals, is involved in human trafficking.

All the partners were detained in preparation for referring them to the Public Prosecution. According to the Public Relations and Security Media General Department in the Ministry of Interior, the Criminal Security Sector received information about the gathering of Arab workers in Farwaniya.

This is within the framework of efforts exerted by the security authorities to combat human trafficking and visa trading. The information has been verified and preliminary investigations revealed that the workers are under the sponsorship of a company whose registered activities are ‘security and private guards’ and headquartered along Tunis Street in Hawally.

A security team was formed quickly after receiving such information and it was found that one of the owners of the company is a citizen working at the Interior Ministry. Investigations revealed the company hires workers from abroad and collects money from the workers – activities which fall under human trafficking and forgery. Action was taken immediately to close the file of the company, while the citizen has been suspended from work and referred to the prosecution.
