KUWAIT CITY, June 4, (KUNA): Minister of Communication and State Minister for Municipality Affairs Eissa Al-Kandari on Saturday affirmed his commitment to improve the Kuwait Municipality systems and to strictly apply the law. In a press statement, the Municipality disclosed that during the minister’s meeting with Director General Eng Ahmad Al-Manfouhi, he had a telephone conference with heads and directors of governorates during which a mechanism on dealing with violations was presented.

The statement said Al-Kandari stressed the importance of handling the needs of citizens, ensuring justice for all, and strictly enforcing laws to establish the principle of activation and imposition of laws on everyone, particularly the building regulations and cutting off electricity from structures where violations are uncovered.

On the other hand, Al-Manfouhi confirmed the Municipality’s commitment to activate and bolster the work mechanisms in its sectors in order to maintain the civilized face of Kuwait and to serve public interests.

He added a legal team has been formed to give legal advice to the Municipality branches during campaigns targeting violations and trespassing such that justice for all is guaranteed in line with related rules and regulations.

He pointed out the Municipality is coordinating with the General Investigations Department affiliated to Interior Ministry in handling proceedings related to violations, in addition to continuous coordination with the Public Prosecution regarding those who have been issued final judgments.

He also unveiled the Municipality’s intention to ask the Fatwa and Legislative Department to attend court sessions, especially the cases related to cutting off electricity from buildings where violations were uncovered.

He explained a grace period is given for the removal or rectification of violations and then disconnection of electricity, unless a written clearance from the Ministry of Electricity is presented. He concluded by saying that the next phase will witness a new mechanism in dealing with cleaning contracts to allow citizens to send complaints and comments through Short Message Service (SMS) to the Municipality in order to address the problems right away.
