Mbokani stars as Kuwait SC win HH Amir Cup – Qadsia beaten

KUWAIT CITY, Dec 21: Mbokani was the hero as Kuwait SC edged Qadsia 1-0 to win His Highness the Amir Football Cup for 15th time in their history at Jaber Al-Ahmad International Stadium on Tuesday. His Highness the Amir Sheikh Nawaf Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al- Sabah sponsored the final match of His Highness’ Cup. His Highness the Amir designated His Highness the Crown Prince Sheikh Mishal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah to attend the match on his behalf. Mbokani scored the lone goal for Kuwait SC in the 26th minute after they withstood Qadsia pressure for most part of the game. The goal came following a defensive blunder from Qadsia defender who gave Mbokani the pass to slot in the opener. Kuwait SC grew in confidence after the goal and they nearly increased their tally in 30th but a weak header from their striker was comfortably saved by Qadsia goalkeeper. Mbokani physical presence caused a lot of problems for Qadsia in defence.

Al Qadsia almost equalized but their attempt was acrobatically parried away by Kuwait SC goalkeeper in the 31st minute to the relief of their fans. The game became physical with referees dishing out yellow cards to both teams. The first ended with Kuwait SC maintaining their slim lead. There was no clear cut chances for Al Qadsia as most of their play was done in the midfield area. Veteran Bader Al-Mutawa was quite in the game. His best move came in 62nd minute when he dribbled past Kuwait SC defenders but they were not enough Al Qadsia bodies to attack his cross which left him furious.

Mbokani went down in the 50th, appealing for a penalty which the referee waived away. Kuwait SC Faisal Zayed should have put the game to rest with a glorious opportunity he squandered in 58th minute. Qadsia also had a penalty appeal turned down in 75th minute after long VAR check. His Highness the Amir Football Cup was launced in 1961-1962. Al- Qadsia and Al-Arabi have won the titles 16 times apeice, Kuwait SC 14 times, Al-Kazma SC seven times, Al-Salmiya SC and Al-Yarmouk SC won the title twice, while Al-Fahaheel won it once.
