KUWAIT CITY, Oct 23: Deputy Premier and Minister of Interior Sheikh Khalid Al-Jarrah Al-Sabah has instructed the concerned authorities to conduct an urgent investigation into the security incidents that took place at Mina Abdullah Refinery and Sabah Al-Salem Police Station, reports Al-Anba daily.

According to informed sources, Sheikh Al-Jarrah has ordered maximum punishment against all those proven to have violated the law, stressing not to be lenient towards those who violate the law or offend securitymen.

Meanwhile, Aljarida daily reported that the Ahmadi Criminal Security officers, in coordination with the Facilities Investigation Department, arrested five people including two employees for their involvement in the attack at Mina Abdullah Refinery entrance gate, and for assaulting the security personnel of the Petroleum Facilities Protection Unit which resulted in one security personnel sustaining multiple injuries in his head, hands and shoulders such that he had to be taken to Adan Hospital for treatment.

According to a security source, intelligence officers reached out to all the parties involved in the quarrel after one of the employees testified and gave information about the incident. He said the employees involved in the attack had told securitymen that the security official of Petroleum Facilities Protection Unit was the one to attack them first, and that he had intentionally provoked them through the way he conducted his inspection and verbally abused them in the process.

The source explained that the intelligence officers also listened to the testimony of the injured officer, who denied that he assaulted the employees. The still-hospitalized officer confirmed that he had followed the law and security instructions, as he would be held accountable if he failed to implement them.

He revealed that he was surprised to see the huge number of attackers beating him while he was performing his duty. In addition, undersecretary of Ministry of Interior has assigned the Acting Assistant Undersecretary for Special Security Forces Affairs Major General Shukri Al-Najjar to open internal investigations with the security officers who were supposed to be at the entrance during the attack and to know the reasons why they did not intervene to arrest the attackers. He has also ordered to find out the measures that had been taken to secure the gate before and during the incident.
