Many records broken at KES Swimming Gala

Kuwait English School held its annual Senior School Swimming Gala Monday, Nov 21. The girls competed in Qadsiya Swimming Facility, Hawalli, and the boys travelled to Al-Arabi Sports Club, Mansouriya.

Pupils took part in a host of events across a range of different swimming disciplines. Both events witnessed some outstanding swimming performances and many personal bests were achieved.

The boys managed to break 2 records between them at their intensely contested gala: Matthew Hall (Y.7 — 25m butterfly) with a new time of 14.62 seconds, and Ahmed Al Banaw (Y.11 — 25m backstroke), obtaining a new record at 16.65 seconds.

The girls, on the other hand, established an incredible 11 new fastest times. Sisters Lauren (Y.10), Emily (Y.13) and Vanessa (Y.12) Al Haddad set an espectacular 6 new records between them in their events. Imogen Lambert also had outstanding swims and created 2 new records in the 100m individual medley and 50m breastroke; Vicky Stergiou (Y.7) and Nouf Salmeen (Y.11) became record holders too in the 50m freestyle and 25m breastroke respectively.

Finally, Ahmadi House set a new 4×25 Medley relay record.

Senior School Principal, Mrs Janet Carew, told the students that “the gala was absolutely magnificent” and that she is “very proud of them for participating so well and achieving so much”. She thanked all the staff who helped run the two swimming galas and especially the PE staff who had organised both events, Miss Hughes, head of swimming, Mrs O’Brien, Sameh and Broome.

Finally, Mrs Carew announced that Failaka House had amassed the most points overall, and she declared them swimming champions for 2016.
