KUWAIT CITY, Nov 21: Head of organizing committee of the First Kuwait International Jiu-Jitsu Championship Abdulmohsen Saleh Al-Babtain affirmed that the championship has met all expectations and contributed in shedding light on this sport positively.
In a statement to KUNA on Monday, Al-Babtain said the competition, which was held for the first time in Kuwait last Friday and Saturday under the sponsorship of Public Authority for Youth and Kuwait Olympic Committee, witnessed the participation of 382 players from 25 countries.
He stressed that the competition was strong and the 120 Kuwait players who had participated in it had managed to secure top positions by winning 45 medals including 20 gold.
Al-Babtain said the championship has contributed in discovering new high-quality talents who will form a strong national team in the near future to compete at regional and international Jiu-Jitsu competitions.
He affirmed that the championship has achieved huge success in its first edition, praising the international referees who managed all the games. He stressed that these referees are those who participated in the just-concluded World Cup in California.
Al-Babtain reiterated that the competition has achieved its goals in spreading awareness of sports culture and highlighting the ability of Kuwait to organize and host international tournaments in addition to giving the youth a chance to showcase their talents, adding that this success has motivated the organizers to make this event an annual championship and to add women category in the next edition.
