Livestock banned from the Republic of Georgia – Bluetongue Virus

KUWAIT CITY, Feb 22: The Public Authority for Agricultural Affairs and Fish Resources (PAAAFR) banned the import of livestock animals from the Republic of Georgia, reports Al-Rai daily.

In a statement, PAAAFR stressed on the importance of subjecting all incoming consignments to its conditions and restrictions, in line with requirements of the World Organization for Animal Health (OIE), the veterinary quarantine systems in Kuwait and the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC).

The decision was taken against the backdrop of the OIE’s recent reports on the outbreak of Bluetongue Virus (BTV) in Georgia.

Meanwhile, acting on information firemen rushed to a commercial complex in Aqila and put out fire to the second floor shoe store, reports Al-Anba daily. Quick response by firemen prevented the fire from spreading. Investigations are underway to identify the cause of the fire.
