Limitation of mind

The Moroccan thinker Ahmad Assid believes one of the most intractable problems is their deep concentration during a certain stage of history on the knowledge of Sharia and shutting the door totally to Western science because they have reached a conviction that the mind is unreliable and therefore it should be governed by the religious text which is an absolute sanctity.

Assid also believes the mind is limited to the limits of Sharia and its mission lies only in the knowledge and application of religious texts. This made the role of reason in Islamic thought limited in value and limited in effort because it could not venture to seek knowledge outside the religious framework, and thus lagging Muslims on the cognitive, scientific and mental level.

Ibn Rushd was the last who called on Muslims, 800 years ago to correct their mistake, saying that the religious text calls for working out reason in the use of mental science. But the works of Ibn Rushd were destroyed and burned, and his attitudes and opinions were ignored.

This continued until the 20th century when we knew or discovered the value of Ibn Rushd and his sayings, nevertheless, we insisted on sticking to our position, despite the clarity of rational logic, and the Muslims still refuse to discuss the cause of their backwardness.

Ahmed Assid believes one of the manifestations of the crisis of civilization experienced by Muslims is that whenever they encounter a modern scientific problem, or an intellectual obstacle that is difficult to overcome, they resort to the past and seek solutions to their crises.

The great scientific revolutions have failed to awaken Muslims and guide them to the desire expressed by Ibn Rushd to reach the facts of nature and universe, but they chose to search for an alternative corresponding to what the Westerners discovered, an expression of the crisis and failure of civilization.

He also said those who practice this game give more victory to religion than science because there is a religious political trend, like the Muslim Brotherhood, which is engaged in a religious ideology aimed at restoring consideration to religion not for the religion itself but for their own interests and plans after they felt the modern state and the new modern age will overtake them and they will miss the train.

These people try to keep abreast by promoting religion and this is not a scientific work such as research in the miracle of the Holy Quran, and other topics, so we find that the proportion allocated in our countries for scientific research is very small, and this is evidence that we are not able to catch up with the age and as a result we have drifted away from the civilization.

Assid added there is no religious text that can change the scientific text. It is a reference to the behavior of the believers, but in the scientific field, the subject is completely different.

PS: The MP who proposed to give women the right to give approval for medical treatment is MP Youssef Al-Fadala, not Al-Babtain as has been mentioned. I apologize for the mistake.
