Lebanon thwarts bid to smuggle 150,000 Captagon pills to Kuwait

KUWAIT CITY, Feb 6: The Lebanese authorities have thwarted an attempt to smuggle 150,000 Captagon pills to Kuwait hidden inside chocolate bars, reports Al-Rai daily. The Minister of Interior and Municipalities, Judge Bassam Mawlawi, tweeted: “An attempt to smuggle Captagon pills, hidden and camouflaged, inside a postal parcel containing pieces of chocolate destined to the sisterly State of Kuwait has been foiled.” He stressed “the Ministry of Interior and Municipalities and the General Directorate of the Internal Security Forces are on the lookout for any attempt to export evil and harm our brothers in the Arab Gulf states.”

The Public Relations Division of the Internal Security Forces announced that “in the context of combating drug smuggling operations carried out by the Central Narcotics Control Office in the Judicial Police Unit, information was available that a group of people planned to smuggle a large quantity of narcotic pills (Captagon) to an Arab country hidden inside a parcel camouflaged as chocolate bars.” The sources indicated “as a result of intensive investigations the location of the parcel was determined by a postal company, and it was seized. The sources added a Lebanese man, identified only as H.T., born in 1995 has been taken into custody and that investigation is underway to identify the rest of the members of the gang.
