Lebanese expat pledges marriage, rapes Filipina

KUWAIT CITY, Dec 22: Police have arrested a young Lebanese for raping a Filipina, reports Al-Anba daily. Asecurity source said the arrest came after the woman filed a complaint with the Maidan Hawally Police Station. In her complaint the woman said the Lebanese cheated her by promising to marry and convinced her that she should visit his mother to get her blessing. The complainant added she did not realize that her lover was cheating when he invited her to visit his mother in an apartment. She complained when she went into the apartment, she did not find anyone and the man raped her. She has been referred to Forensics to verify her claim and the Lebanese to the Public Prosecution.

Wanted man held: Acting on information and armed with a warrant, the Jahra police raided the home of a 42- year-old Kuwaiti and arrested him for possessing drugs, reports Al-Anba daily. Following the arrest, it turned out the man was wanted by law and had been sentenced to 22 years imprisonment in connection with three financial fraud cases worth KD 22,500. The suspect was put under surveillance for several days before raiding his home at an early morning hour.

Preacher sacked: The Mosques Sector of the Ministry of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs has suspended a imam and referred him to the Committee of Religious Affairs for investigation on the background of sectarian and political issues and for violating the charter and laws of the mosques, reports Al- Qabas daily. According to reliable sources the ministry is also expected to refer three preachers to the Advisory Committee for violating laws.

Charities shut: Minister of Social Affairs and Labor and Minister of State for Planning and Development Hind Al-Subaih issued two decisions to dissolve two charities, reports Al- Anba daily. According to the decisions, one of the charities was dissolved upon the request of its officials due to lack of funds and inability to continue running while the second for violating charity rules and not sending annual financial and administrative reports. On the other hand, Director of Charities Department at the Ministry of Social Affairs and Labor Munira Al-Kandari said 80 violations have been reported in 2015 about unlicensed or unauthorized individuals collecting money for charity.
