‘Driver, servant benefits drive separation’

KUWAIT CITY, Jan 14: Assistant Undersecretary for Information Technology and Statistics at the Ministry of Justice, Heba Al-Abdul Al-Jalil, said a recent study by the Statistics and Research Department of the Information Technology Sector of the Ministry of Justice shows the total divorce cases in Kuwaiti society over 10 years and the main reasons for its high rates, reports Al-Anba daily.

Al-Abdul Al-Jalil said a detailed study revealed that the divorce rate among Kuwaitis during the past 10 years in the same year of marriage was 5.9%. She explained that of the 100,017 marriages among Kuwaitis during the period from 2007 to 2017, the number of divorces was 5,926 cases during the year of marriage.

She pointed out that the study did not highlight only the number of divorces during the period 2007-2017, but predicted the number of divorces during the next five years from 2018 to 2022. The most important reasons for divorce, which the study focused on, Al- Abdul Jalil said that the study concluded a number of reasons and important factors, foremost of which is the Personal Status Law No. 51 of 1984, which is one of the most important reasons for divorce in Kuwait, where women are encouraged to seek divorce, and some of them are getting married to get a divorce so that they can be provided with a servant and a driver as per the law.

The study focused on a number of other important reasons, including infidelity and lack of trust, whether by the husband or wife, stressing that the marriage must be based on loyalty, trust and mutual respect between the parties, if there was treason between the parties’ imbalance in the house and the lack of confidence drives you to think about divorce.
