Labor minister denies plans to end contracts of expats aged 50 & above

KUWAIT CITY, Feb 8: Minister of Social Affairs and Labor, and State Minister for Planning and Development Affairs Hind Al-Sabeeh has denied that the ministry is planning to end the contracts of expatriates aged 50 years and above as part of the expenditure reduction policy adopted by the state these days, reports Al-Rai.

Meanwhile, Parliament’s Legislative Committee has accepted a proposal submitted by MP Mubarak Al-Khurainij for the amendment of Article 12 of Law 1/1999 concerning health insurance for foreigners and fixed taxes for health services. The committee members unanimously refused two suggestions submitted by MPs Faisal Al-Duwaisan and Askar Al-Enezi for the amendment of Article 1 of Law 104/2013 concerning establishment of a family support fund.

The committee also refused four other suggestions submitted by some MPs for amending Law 69/2015 concerning the establishment of a closed joint-stock company for recruiting domestic workers. Head of the committee MP Mubarak Al-Hurais revealed that some vital amendments to the draft law on judiciary independence will be presented by the government next week, stressing that the draft aims at achieving perfect judiciary independence financially and administratively in order to develop the judicial work system.

He revealed that this law was supposed to be submitted in the earlier parliamentary sessions. Rapporteur of the committee Ahmad Al-Qudaibi explained that the government and the judicial board have been invited to discuss the draft law in a meeting next week. Even though the government has not sent the draft law yet, the committee has been working on the parliamentary drafts to prepare the report which will be discussed with the government next week.
