Kuwait’s national tennis team got on Friday the top places at end of 2016 GCC Junior Tennis Championship under 12 and 16 years old, co-organized by Qatar Tennis Federation and the GCC.

In Under 16 years old event, the team included Fouad Behbehani, Essa Qebazerd, Bader Antar and Ali Al-Shatti won the gold medal after beating the Omani team in the final 2-1, while the Qatari team came in third place.

In U-12 event, the Kuwaiti team consisted of Yaqoub Mohammad, Hussein Al-Shatti, Abdulrazeq Abdul, Mohmmad Al-Shatti and Suleiman Al-Duwaisan won the silver medal by losing to the Qatari team, while Saudi Arabia came third.

“The team got ready for this championship through entering a training camp over two weeks in which they prepared well for winning advanced places,” Mubarak Al-Nisafi, head of Kuwait’s delegation, told KUNA in a statement following the ceremony of distributing medals.

He expressed his content for this win, lauding the support of the Public Authority for Sports’ Director General Sheikh Ahmad Mansour Al-Sabah for harnessing all capabilities to the team.

Al-Nisafi referred to the great role played by all coaching team in this tournament, revealing that the male and female junior players get ready for taking part in the Gulf juniors tennis championship in Dubai on Dec 20-30.

The 2016 GCC Junior Tennis Championship, held at Khalifa Tennis and Squash Complex, featured the participation of Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Oman and the host Qatar.
