According to a security source, in light of the increasing robberies and complaints of police impersonation, securitymen increased surveillance in and around Farwaniya because most of the complainants were from that area.

The complainants had told police, some of them were taken to the ATM machines and forced to withdraw money under threat. They added, the suspects presented their IDs and said they belong to the special crime branch. The complainants also said the suspects acted very confidently.

The daily added, the suspects were arrested after intensive investigations and use of state-of-the-art techniques, including the installation of CCTV cameras at certain places to identify the suspects. The CID men were taken by surprise when they discovered one of the suspects was a former employee who had been dismissed from the department and this gave the other members of the gang courage to commit the crimes.

The source added the CID men after taking search warrants from the Public Prosecution raided the homes of the suspects and seized the stolen stuffs and referred them to the concerned authorities. The source added the victims have identified all the suspects from a police line-up.
