‘Kuwaiti women outnumber male compatriots by 25,525’ – PACI releases statistics

KUWAIT CITY, April 23: Recent statistics released by the Public Authority for Civil Information (PACI) showed that the number of female Kuwaitis until the end of 2016 was 25,525 higher than males — 681,609 females and 656,084 males, reports Al-Seyassah daily.

These statistics also revealed that the number of male citizens who are 29 years old and below is higher than females under the same age category while the number of females who are more than 29 years old is higher than males. The number of males four years old and below reached 84,418 compared to 80,956 females.

The number of males between five and nine years old totaled 83,857 and 81,410 for females. For ages between 10 and 14 years old, the number of males is 75,786 while females reached 73,667.

For ages between 15 and 19 years old, the number of males is 67,323 and females totaled 64,547. For ages between 25 and 29 years old, males totaled 54,078 and females totaled 53,986.

For the older categories: the number of males between 30 and 34 years old is 47,291 and 50,382 for females. The number of males between 35 and 39 years old reached 38,944 and 43,136 for females.

The number of males between 40 and 44 years old reached 33,856 while females totaled 38,442. The number of males between 45 and 49 years old totaled 29,037 and females reached 33,579. The number of males between 50 and 55 years old reached 24,304 while their female counterparts totaled 28,519.

The number of males between 55 and 59 years old is 17,545 and females totaled 22,422. The number of males between 60 and 64 years old is 13,038 while females reached 17,774. The number of males above 64 years old is 21,507 and 29,770 for females.

Psychology Professor at Kuwait University Dr Khedr Al-Baroun said the increasing number of female citizens is normal, pointing out this is also the case in most countries around the world.

He clarified there are many reasons behind this trend, including the higher number of traffic incidents involving males compared to females and the fact that women have better health in general. He added the number of men who consume harmful substances is larger than that of women, indicating the number of women who smoke is much less than their male counterparts.
