Marriage ceremony in prison gets MoI nod

KUWAIT CITY, Nov 3: In an unprecedented turn of events, the Ministry of Interior approved the marriage of a 30-year-old Kuwaiti male prisoner to an Egyptian female prisoner, reports Al-Seyassah daily. The Correctional Institutions Department in the ministry is preparing a simple wedding ceremony for the couple next week.

A security source disclosed the marriage came after long time of love between the couple, indicating the love story began seven years before the imprisonment of the Egyptian woman.

The source said the crimes committed by the couple are not related to violence and drugs. He added the citizen could not bear being away from his beloved so he decided to commit crimes to enter the prison and share the suffering behind the prison bars as he was sentenced to five years imprisonment. He revealed the couple communicated through a lawyer who submitted a letter to the assistant undersecretary for correctional institutions requesting for approval of the marriage and this is in agreement with the Legal Affairs Department.

According to the source, a simple wedding will be held next week as part of the ‘family house’ project of the Central Prison for the couple to meet for the first time in prison. He said the ministry has given instructions to some of the prison’s female staff to arrange the needs of the bride and celebrate with the couple during their wedding.
