Kuwaiti jockey Ali Al-Kharafi won the gold medal late Friday during his participation in Qatar’s International Show Jumping Championship which began in the capital Doha on Thursday. Al-Kharafi managed to beat 47 other jockeys to win the medal. There are about 170 jockeys from 12 countries, partaking in the tournament.
Speaking to KUNA, Al-Kharafi said that he was glad to have won the competition.
He took the time to also commend the performances of his teammates Shaker Al-Khathmi and Marsoud Al-Marshoud who both won the gold and silver medals during Thursday’s competition. Al-Kharafi also won a silver medal during the course of the championship.
Unfortunately, the Kuwaiti Jockeys will not be able to record the wins under Kuwait’s flag due to the ban imposed by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) on Kuwaiti sports.
They competed under the banner of the International Federation for Equestrian Sports (FEI).
