Kuwaiti held for procuring citizenship for ‘bedoun’ son – Ban slapped on 14 companies

KUWAIT CITY, Jan 11: The security authorities have arrested a 54-year-old Kuwaiti for adding a bedoun ‘son’ to his file and obtaining a Kuwaiti citizenship for the latter, reports Al- Rai daily. The daily added, the suspect left for Syria in 1991 when Kuwait was under Iraq’s occupation and met his bedoun brotherin- law and the latter requested the former to add his son to his nationality file.

The Kuwaiti obliged and managed to get a forged birth certificate for the toddler unlawfully from the Kuwaiti embassy in Syria and added the child’s name on his passport. The Kuwaiti, his bedoun brother- in-law and the son who got the citizenship through fraud are believed to be military personnel working for the Ministry of Defense. After their arrest of the suspects, the ‘son’ has reportedly admitted that he is fully aware that his father is a bedoun and not a Kuwaiti.

The arrest came under guidance and supervision of the Assistant Undersecretary for Citizenship and Passports Affairs Major-General Mazen Al-Jarrah following exchange of information and inquiries between the search and follow-up Department of the Directorate-General of Nationality and Travel Documents and the Directorate of Military Security Intelligence at the Ministry of Defense.

Companies banned: The General Department of Residence Affairs Investigation of the Ministry of Interior has reportedly slapped a ban on 14 companies and prevented them from sponsoring any personnel in the near future, reports Al-Rai daily.

This came after the head offices of these companies in commercial complexes in Farwaniya were visited several times but the department officials always found the offices shut, which meant there is no activity. The owners of these companies have been summoned for interrogation.
