Kuwaiti citizen fined for insulting poll candidate

KUWAIT CITY, Nov 17: The Civil Court obliged a Kuwaiti citizen to pay a candidate in the National Assembly elections an amount of KD 4,300, after being convicted by the ruling of the Court of Appeals, which fined him KD 3,000 for insulting the candidate via “Instagram”, reports Al-Anba daily.

The Public Prosecution charged the defendant with publishing in his Instagram account phrases that would undermine the dignity of the victim and insult him publicly. During the court session, the counsel of the parliamentary candidate Lawyer Muhammad Al- Sayegh presented the evidence, which was a photocopy of the offense committed by the accused of insulting his client through Instagram. He demanded that the accused be punished and the civil case referred to the competent court, and he claimed a civil temporary compensation
