Kuwaiti acquitted of sharing girlfriend’s pictures

KUWAIT CITY, April 7: The Misdemeanor Court of Appeals upturned the verdict issued by the Court of First Instance, which imposed a fine of KD 200 on a Kuwaiti citizen who was accused of sending his girlfriend’s picture to another man without her consent. The appellate court acquitted the defendant. The Public Prosecution had charged the defendant with misuse of a smartphone using which he sent the picture to a third party on Instagram, WhatsApp and Snapchat without seeking consent of the owner of the picture. Reportedly, the defendant became close to the woman few months ago and were sharing information via social media. Things gone awry about a month ago when she accused him of spreading her picture. A witness testified that the man had actually sent him pictures of the woman without her consent. However, the defense counsel Lawyer Abdul-Mohsen Al-Qattan stressed that there were no sufficient proofs to indict his client.

Hearing set: The Criminal Court will handle the case No. 56/2018 on Ministry of Interior’s embezzlement of public funds filed against 24 officials of Ministry of Interior and Ministry of Finance including high-ranking officials who are accused of forgery, neglect, embezzlement of public funds, and money laundering.
