KUWAIT CITY, May 23: The Criminal Court acquitted a Kuwaiti citizen who was accused of peddling drugs, and sentenced his friend to five-year imprisonment for consuming and peddling drugs.
According to the case file, the two suspects were arrested by an undercover agent affiliated to the Drugs Control General Department.
The agent had affirmed that his investigations had led him to the first suspect who he suspected of possessing drugs for use and peddling. When he searched the suspect, he found a packet of “Chemical” drugs. The suspect admitted that the drugs were intended for his use but the source of the drugs was his friend.
The agent assigned the first suspect to contact his friend to supply the drugs and to receive the payments of the last contraband. The friend (second suspect) was arrested in his house and he confessed to selling drugs to his clients. In court, Lawyer Enam Haidar, who represented the second suspect, called for the invalidation of the arrest-and-search procedures that were conducted without a legal warrant from the Public Prosecution, adding that the provisions of article 85 of the Penal Code were violated.
