Kuwaiti accused of fraud, embezzlement acquitted

KUWAIT CITY, May 9: The Misdemeanor Court acquitted a Kuwaiti citizen who was accused of embezzlement and fraud by a compatriot who sold his luxury “Bentley” car to the suspect but received a dud cheque of KD 95,000. Representing the defendant was Lawyer Zaid Al-Khabbaz who said the charges against his client lacked any fraud intention, as well as the lack of the value of the car which is considered to be a civil dispute. P u b l i c Prosecution said the defendant gave a dud cheque to the plaintiff after the he already changed the ownership of the car, a transaction which is considered as embezzlement and fraud, given that the defendant intentionally presented the plaintiff with a dud cheque.

Pay couple expenses: Administrative Court has ordered Ministry of Health to pay KD 7,000 every month to a Kuwaiti citizen and his wife for receiving medical treatment overseas. Lawyer Mubarak Al-Khashab, representing the citizen and his wife, submitted relevant documents including the approval of the ministry for the overseas treatment under the state’s expense including the dates for departure from Kuwait and return to Kuwait. He asked the court to assign an expert to estimate the amount to be paid by the ministry and the amount that has not yet been paid. According to the report of the expert, the citizen and his wife were to receive KD 7,000 per month.

‘Pay allowances’: The Administrative Court cancelled the decision of the medical committee to downgrade the classification of a citizen’s disability to simple permanent physical disability, and obligated it to issue another certificate to classify the disability as medium permanent physical disability and pay the stated allowances as per law No. 8/2010. Lawyer Ayed Mahdi Al-Rasheedi, representing the disabled citizen, said his client had previously obtained a certificate that classifies his disability as severe permanent physical disability, but he was surprised when the committee decided to downgrade his disability, which is a violation of the relevant law. He called upon the court to cancel the decision of the committee and pay the stated allowances to his client.

Corpse dumped: The corpse of a 1994-born Kuwaiti citizen was found in an open lot in Umm Al-Haiman area. According to security sources, when the Operations Room of Ministry of Interior received information about the discovery of the corpse, securitymen and paramedics rushed to the location and checked the corpse to discover the victim had died more than two days ago. The corpse was referred to the Forensics Department. A case was registered and investigations are ongoing to determine the circumstances behind his death.

Kuwaiti stabbed: A young Kuwaiti citizen sustained serious injuries when he was beaten and stabbed by some unknown individuals. According to security sources, the victim was taken to Jahra Hospital by his neighbors, and he was admitted in the Intensive Care Unit. Investigations have been launched to identify his attackers and the reasons behind the attack.
