KUWAIT CITY, Nov 3, (Agencies): The Kuwaiti shooting team won Tuesday two gold medals in men’s double trap shooting contest of the 13th Asian Shooting Championship for single and teams, currently held in Kuwait. Some 28 shooters from 13 countries are participating in the Asian event.

In the single contests, shooter Fuhaid Al-Daihani won the first place and gold medal in the final round after shooting all 30 targets, while his Chinese competitor, who was two targets away from winning the contest, placed second with the silver medal.

Meanwhile, Qatar’s Hamad Al-Murray clinched to the bronze medal after a fierce competition with Kuwait’s Saad Al-Mutairi, who placed fourth. In the teams’ contests, the Kuwaiti team, including Fuhaid Al-Daihani, Saad Al-Mutairi, and Ahmad Al-Afasi won the second gold medal by shooting a total of 414 targets, while the Chinese team won the silver medal and the Qatari team won the second bronze medal.

Earlier, President of the Arab and Kuwaiti Shooting Associations Eng Duaij Al-Otaibi expressed hope that the 13th Asian Shooting Championship will be successful and beneficial to all participants and that it will accomplish the desirable objectives such as raising the standard of Asian shooters and helping them in attaining frontline positions in Olympic and World championships.

According to a press release, Al-Otaibi declared this when he was announcing the launch of the tournament at Sheikh Sabah Al-Salem Olympic Shooting Range Complex. He said the organizing committee has prepared well for this tournament in which 1,200 shooters from 33 countries are participating, adding that the committee has provided the complex with necessary advanced equipment to ensure appropriate atmosphere for the participants.

Al-Otaibi said, “Last Friday, we were shocked with the announcement of the International Shooting Federation that this championship is not regarded as a qualifier for the 2016 Rio De Janeiro Olympics even though there were no objections or violations in the past four years”.

He added, “I reject any decision that will impact the smooth conduct of this championship or its legal status. Therefore, we will protect the rights of all winners to ensure they get qualification allotments because the championship is recognized and there is no contradicting legal disagreement over it”.
