KUWAIT CITY, Nov 29, (KUNA): The latest International Tennis Federation (www.itftennis.com) ranking for teams participating in the Davis Cup (www.daviscup.com) put Kuwait on top of Arab countries in the men’s category, which includes North African countries.

Kuwait is the only Arab-Asian country competing in the second group of Davis Cup Asia/Oceania with Kuwait’s Tennis National Team advancing to 59th position in the international ranking, performing better than some Arab and African countries in professional tennis; especially Tunisia which ranked 65th internationally while Morocco ranked 68th, Lebanon ranked 84th and Syria ranked 85th.

Egypt took the 95th position internationally, followed by Qatar in 97th, UAE in 100th, whereas Jordan exited from the top 100 position to settle in 101st position, followed by Iraq with a difference of six positions and Bahrain with a difference of eight positions, Saudi Arabia in 113th, Oman in 122nd and Libya in 132nd.

Manager of Kuwait’s Tennis National Team Riza Al-Shatti praised the accomplishment of the team in the Davis Cup ranking.

Kuwaiti car racer Sulaiman Al-Kandari has said the first place he won in the recent Bahrain Card Car Racing Championship is the first step toward his emergence in the global scene to compete in international competitions.

Al-Kandari declared his achievement in the first round of the championship that ended Saturday will serve as a catalyst toward becoming a better racer and prepare him for the international competition set for May 2017. He noted the competition was very tough among the competitors from Qatar, Bahrain and France, while bad weather led to his slipping off from the track several times. However, he held on until the end.

He noted the competition was full of obstacles but the training camp in Britain helped in overcoming them. He added that competitors came from Qatar, Bahrain, UAE, Italy, Australia and America. He considered the race a big challenge, noting the first three winners have qualified automatically for the international card race, which is far more competitive.

He extended appreciation to the chairman of Kuwait Motors and Motorbikes Club Sheikh Ahmad Al-Daoud Al-Sabah for supporting him from the start by sending him for a month’s training camp in Britain.
