Kuwait team ready for 23rd Gulf Cup – KFA boss denies Saudi’s withdrawal from tournament

KUWAIT CITY, Dec 13, (KUNA): A number of Kuwaiti footballers said that the national team was ready to take part in the 23rd Gulf Cup to be held in Kuwait between Dec 22 and Jan 5.

In remarks to KUNA today, the footballers affirmed they would do their best to entertain the Kuwaiti fans and perform well during the competition.

Despite the suspension of Kuwaiti sports activities for two years, the players vow to offer their best during the prestigious competition, Kuwaiti footballer Fahad Al-Enezi said.

The 23rd Gulf Cup of Nations will have eight countries participating including Saudi Arabia, Qatar, UAE, Bahrain, Oman, Iraq, Yemen, and Kuwait.

The Gulf Cup kicked off in Bahrain in 1970. and Kuwait won the tournament for ten times, while Saudi Arabia, Qatar, and Iraq won it three times each. Oman as a one title.

Kuwait Football Association (KFA) President Sheikh Ahmad Yusuf Al-Sabah denied Monday reported withdrawal of the Saudi football team nor any other team from the 23rd Gulf Cup.

All national teams of the GCC, Yemen and Iraq will be participating in the Gulf Cup on Dec 22, Sheikh Ahmad confirmed in a statement.

The draw resulted in two groups: Saudi Arabia, UAE, Oman and Kuwait, while the second consists of Qatar, Iraq, Yemen and Bahrain.
