Kuwait Open tennis championship ends

KUWAIT CITY, March 17: The closing ceremony of the 2016 Kuwait Open Tennis Championship was held on Thursday, March 17 under the auspices and in presence of President of Kuwait Tennis Federation and Arab Tennis Confederation Sheikh Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah.

 The championship, which kicked off earlier this month, was organized by the Kuwait Tennis Federation.

The dignitaries present at the closing ceremony and the final match of the championship included Honorary President of Arab Tennis Federation Sami Fahad Al-Ibrahim, Board Chairman of Yarmouk Sports Club Fahad Ghanim, and representative of Abdulmohsen Ali Murad Behbehani Group. Board members of Yarmouk Sports Club, board members of Kuwait Tennis Federation as well as several team managers, supervisors, coaches, parents of the players and tennis fans had attended the event.

In the final match of men’s singles category, Kuwait’s star tennis players Abdulhameed Al-Shatti and Abdulrahman Al-Awadhi clashed and the game ended in favor of Al-Awadhi by scores of 6-1 and 6-3 in two straight rounds. Both players tried their best and gave good account of themselves to the delight of the spectators.

Earlier in the men’s doubles, the pair of Abdullah Al-Qallaf and Hamid Al-Sulaiteen defeated their opponents Abdul-Rahman Al-Awadhi and Abdullah Al-Makimi to take home the winning trophy.

Shawardi outplayed Krates to win the first place in the above-45 legends men’s single category, while the pair of Mohammad Toneih and Rawan smashed Kumar and Rosimo to win the men’s doubles in the above-45 category.

Earlier, four other competitions were concluded in the championship, including the women’s singles category in which Dana Al-Fulaij took the first place, the under-11 category in which Yaqoub Yusuf came ahead of Abdul-Razzaq Abdal, and the under-13 category in which Mani came first, followed by Mohsin Jamal in second place, while Hussein Jamal won in the under-17 youth category with Ahmad Mufd Khamees in the second position.

The remaining part of the championship is the long awaited men’s singles final match, pitting Kuwait National Team star player Abdul-Hamid Al-Shatti against Abdul-Rahman Al-Awadhi.
