Kuwait elected to UNESCO’s Executive Board

PARIS, Nov 17: Kuwait’s permanent representative to the UN Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) Adam Al-Mullah said Wednesday the organization’s General Conference elected Kuwait to Executive Board for a four-year term (2021-2025). The polling took place this midday and the State of Kuwait won 153 votes, Ambassador Al-Mulla said in statements to KUNA.
He dedicated the win to His Highness the Amir Sheikh Nawaf Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah and His Highness the Crown Prince Sheikh Mishal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah as well as the government and people of Kuwait. Ambassador Al-Mulla thanked the Ministry of Education and Ministry of Foreign Affairs for the support to Kuwait mission to UNESCO. He also thanked the member states of the Organization for the trust placed in Kuwait, renewing his country’s commitment to cooperation with them to realize the shared objectives.
“The great majority of votes won by Kuwait reflects the good fame and high status the country enjoys at the international forums as well as the great efforts being made to prod cultural development and enlightenment,” he affirmed. Ambassador Al-Mulla highlighted the important role of the UNESCO Executive Board in endorsing the Organization’s budget, strategies and projects. The 28-member Board oversees the overall management of UNESCO, and prepares the agenda of the General Conference and ensures proper implementation of its decisions, he noted. The functions and responsibilities of the Executive Board are derived primarily from the constitution and statutes laid down by the General Conference. (KUNA) —
