KUWAIT, April 9 (KUNA) — Food baskets will be delivered to residents of Jleeb Al-Shuyouk and Mahboula, which are under lockdown to curb the spread of the coronavirus (COVID-19), said a minister Thursday.

Speaking to the press, Minister of Social Affairs and Minister of State for Economic Affairs Mariam Al-Aqeel affirmed that the food baskets would be delivered on daily basis to the residents in coordination with the Interior, Finance, and Health Ministries in addition to Kuwait Flour Mills and Bakeries Company (KFMB) as well as charitable organizations.

The Civil Defense will directly handle the process daily at five assigned points, she indicated, adding that markets and shops within the areas will continue operations as normal.

She indicated that the food basket initiative came in line with a cabinet decision to provide provisions to the areas under lockdown, which came as part of the measures to combat the spread of the coronavirus.
