Kuwait, Bahrain in friendly stalemate; UAE beat Iraq 1-0

MANAMA, Dec 18, (KUNA): Kuwait and Bahrain football teams ended their friendly match, part of preparations for the 23rd Gulf Cup in Kuwait, goalless on Monday. The match, held at Bahrain’s National Stadium, was average and chances to score were almost noticeable.

Kuwait Manager Boris Bunjak wanted to test the 11-member squad that would start the first game against Saudi Arabia, due on December 22. Bunjak started with Bader Al-Mutawwa, Hameed Al-Qallaf, Dhari Saeed, Hussain Hakem, Fahad Humoud, Khaled Al-Qahtani, Sultan Al- Enezi, Fahad Al-Ansari, Ali Maqseed, Mohammad Saad and Faisal Zayed.

Meanwhile, UAE national football team defeated Iraqi counterpart in a friendly match at Zabeel Stadium in Dubai in preparation for the 23rd Gulf Football Cup, to be hosted by Kuwait later this month. UAE player Ahmad Malallah snatched the sole goal of the match trough from a shot inside the box in the 39th minute. The Iraqi team dominated possession in second half but failed to convert their opportunities into goals. Earlier today, the Technical Committee of the Gulf football Cup released the schedule of the matches of the tournament, to be held between Dec 22 and Jan 5.
