‘KNPC plans to build 100 new solar-powered petrol stations’

KUWAIT CITY, June 7: Representative from the Kuwait National Petroleum Company (KNPC) Engineer Ahmad Al-Jimaz has announced the company will soon build more than 100 new fuel stations in Kuwait which in part will depend on photovoltaic cells, reports Al-Rai daily.

He was speaking during the third meeting of the Renewable Energy Resources Development Commission which was chaired by the Deputy Chairman of the Committee and Undersecretary of the Ministry of Oil Mohammad Boushahri.

The meeting was also attended by representatives of various ministries and institutions. Al-Jimaz added, “The oil sector has presented an initiative to create a solar power plant to cover 15 per cent of the needs of the oil sector from electric energy by 2020.” For his part, Boushahri praised the efforts exerted by the Kuwait Institute for Scientific Research in the implementation of the pilot project to generate electricity from renewable energies in Al-Shaqaya area
