KAPF seeks to promote Kuwaiti society, says Sheikh Mohammad – Sheikh Nawaf patronizes 22nd Waqf Forum

KUWAIT CITY, Dec 27, (KUNA): Promoting society lies at the core of the Kuwait Awqaf Public Foundation (KAPF) elevated message, Minister of State for Cabinet Affairs and Acting Minister of Electricity and Water Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah Al-Mubarak Al-Sabah has said. The minister made the statement on Sunday at the opening of the 22nd Waqf Forum on behalf of His Highness the Deputy Amir and Crown Prince Sheikh Nawaf Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, who patronizes the two-day event themed “managing waqfs; integration and entrepreneurship.”

KAPF calls for Waqfs and is involved in all that is related to it, including fund management, investment and the disbursement in all fields of development, in addition to communicating with endowers through an integrated system that aims to achieve entrepreneurship, Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah said. He added that the theme of the forum sheds light on the bright march of KAPF and its methods of managing Waqfs.

The minister pointed to the great efforts by former KAFP Secretary General Dr Abdulmohsen Al-Jarallah Al-Kharafi, under whom a lot of local, regional and international Waqf achievements were realized. The 22nd Waqf Forum will review pioneering experiences in Waqfs, both by KAPF and from sisterly and friendly countries, head of the event preparatory committee, Eman Al-Humaidan told the opening ceremony. This forum and the previous ones have sought to enhance Kuwait as the “Capital of Islamic Culture 2016,” Al-Humaidan said, noting that KAPF was chosen as a member for the planning and the coordination of the relevant celebrations. She also highlighted the Waqf-related rulings by the Kuwaiti judiciary, all based on the Islamic Sharia.

These rulings and fatwas (religious edicts) on Kuwaiti Waqf will be issued in a publication on the sidelines of the Forum, to function as a reference for jurists in Arab and Muslim countries. For his part, mufti of the Islamic community in Croatia Aziz Hasanovic, addressed the forum on behalf of guests. He said that KAPF had realized great successes in promoting Waqfs in Kuwait, enhancing its role in support of development efforts.

KAPF efforts have boosted its social, regional and international presence, he added. In addition, KAPF enriched the Islamic world over the past years with a multitude of enlightening views on Waqf work. Hasanovic noted the choice of KAPF as a coordinator of the Muslim countries’ efforts in Waqf work caps its hard and persistent efforts in social development and dissemination of Islamic religious sciences. According to Hasanovic, KAPF has played a significant role supporting charity development projects and Muslim minorities, particularly in the Balkans: Bosnia, Serbia, Croatia and Slovenia.

Today’s ceremony saw the official inauguration of the automatic system to manage Waqfs, to start work as of Jan 1. Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah honored Al-Kharafi and a host of government and private institutions. He also opened the exhibition held as part of the forum.
