KUWAIT CITY, Nov 30: The Misdemeanor Court of Appeals acquitted a journalist who was accused of beating and insulting an actress while they were in the Mishref International Fairground, reports Al-Anba daily.

The Public Prosecutor charged the first accused of beating the second in a sensitive part of the body and causing the injuries described in the medical report. The first and second accused exchanged insulting words, as indicated in the report, in a manner that crosses the limits of honor and esteem. The incident happened in a public place and in full view of others.

During the court session, Lawyer Maryam Faisal Al-Bahr – the counsel to the first accused who is a journalist – insisted that the accusations against her client are surrounded by thick shades of suspicion and imagination, as it was based on statements given by the two victims, who are also the accused, that they exchanged insults and that the first accused beat the second.

She stressed that this statement was not supported by any evidence in the file, in addition to the fact that the investigations did not lead to anything that would benefit the investigation concerning the accusation. Therefore, it cannot be relied upon to attribute the incident to her client because of the unsatisfactory statements by the victims, due to which the statements of the victims are subject to suspicion and imagination.
