KUWAIT CITY, Nov 3: The Criminal Court sentenced a woman to 15 years in prison for impersonating a female citizen, taking advantage of their similarity in appearance to obtain huge loans from banks and other people amounting to KD100,000, reports Al-Seyassah daily. Case files indicate that the accused applied for a new civil identification card as replacement for the allegedly lost card in the name of the victim. She then used the new card to obtain huge loans – as much as KD100,000.

Attorney Jarrah Al-Enezi, lawyer for the victim, told the court that his client was surprised when many financial claims were filed against her by individuals and banks. Various steps were taken against her, including arrest, summons, travel ban and seizure even if she did not commit any crime. Her lawyer then filed a forgery case and demanded for referral of loan documents to the Criminal Evidence Department to prove that her signature on the documents was forged. After the investigation and verification of the signature by looking into the banks’ surveillance cameras, the authorities identified the person who committed the crimes.
